Painted Paper Owls

This is a lesson I did with my II (intensive intervention) class that comes to me once a week on their own. Most of the II and EC students at my schools are integrated into the regular classes for art, music, and PE but I have one class of 6 students that comes on their own with their teacher and TA’s. I LOVE teaching this class. The students are all super sweet and love art.

The first week of this lesson we created painted paper by painting cool or warm colors on colored construction paper and using paint scrapers to scrape patterns into the paint while it was still wet.

The next week we used templates I had made to trace and cut shapes on the painted paper to make an owl. The following week we glued down our shapes to make the owl collage. They eyes we colored on with oil pastel since they would have been too small for this group to cut out. We used these awesome dual control training scissors to help the students cut since most of them can not use scissors on their own.
