1st Grade Flowers

1st Grade made these beautiful watercolor resist flowers for our Square 1 Art fundraiser. Using oil pastels they started with a circle in the center and did a row of petals around the circle then a row of petals around that and so on. We looked at pictures and illustrations of flowers and I showed them a few shapes for petals. We talked about symmetry, repetition, and patterns.

Then the students used liquid watercolor to paint in the flowers. We spent a lot of time on how to properly use watercolor paint and brushes.

I was inspired by Deep Space Sparkle.
