Snow Bear

1st Grade Snow Bear

This is a fun one to two lesson for first grade.

We started by doing a guided drawing along with me in pencil. Then they added patterns and details to the scarfs and hats. Then they outlined their drawings in Sharpies.

They drew snowflakes in the sky first using a white oil pastel (or wax crayon- press hard!)

Next I did a brief watercolor painting demo for them. I started out using watercolors but then moved on to using tempera cakes because the blue water color was getting used up too fast. The white snowflakes showing up under the blue paint was like magic to them! Last I let them pain their hat and scarf colors of their choice.

This lesson was inspired by Art Projects for Kids which has a downloadable how to draw worksheet for the snowbear. Check it out!
